Campaign Season is Just Beginning

The race for governor just cranked it up a notch.

Wednesday four of the early candidates for governor stopped in Jackson to introduce themselves.

The Southwest Tennessee Development District is all about economic development.

The attendees got to hear what prospective office holders could bring to the table if elected into office. The agency hosted its 8th Annual Forum.

There were people running for US Senate, US House and Tennessee Governor.

There were about a dozen people who took the time to introduce themselves and share a little about their lives.

Two congresswomen are trying to move up the political ladder. US Representative Marsha Blackburn wants retiring Senator Bob Corkers seat.

US Representative Diane Black wants the Tennessee governors chair, As does state senator Mae Beavers.

The lunch had a good turnout with 150 people turning out. The main attraction were four gubernatorial candidates.

Executive director of the group Joe Parker kept things moving. Only two questions were on the hour-long forum.

Parker asked the audience how many in the audience had closed their local hospitals. Half the audience stood up.

The other question was how would Candidates salvage the 140 million dollars mega site project outside Shelby county and Memphis.

Toyota recently walked away from the project saying the site was not shovel ready and would take two years to put in sewer and other necessities.

All four candidates were committed to making the project a success.
