1500 jobs coming to Gibson county

The industrial park north of Humboldt might not look like much now but give it it a couple of years and it will be home to 1500 new jobs and a bustling Tyson foods factory.

Governor Bill Haslam along with Tyson foods announce the new factory this morning in Humboldt as the company plans to invest over 300 million dollars into the facility.

The announcement has local officials, like Humboldt Mayor Marvin Sikes, excited for the future Humboldt and Gibson county.

"It just let me know we have a lot of great things going on in Humboldt and Gibson county. It was just awesome to see that Tyson could see that also and invest here" said Sikes.

According to Sikes says the announcement will boost the economy and hopefully bring in more business to the area

"Its really going to make a big difference in Gibson county and Humboldt. The payroll should be up to 90 million so where hoping that helps bring in some restaurants and hotels to Humboldt and Gibson county."

The site where the plant is going to be built has been owned by Gibson county for over twenty years so this announcement is viewed as a big pay off for the county.

"What you see this is a decision made twenty years ago by Gibson county and Humboldt city leaders that is today paying off and shows how important it is to invest forward" says Gov. Bill Haslam.

That plant is expected to be up and running by 2019 but you won't have to wait that long to start applying to work for Tyson according to Doug Ramsey, who is Group president of poultry for Tyson foods.

We'll start construction in the next 3-6 months and start the hiring phase over the next year."
