Irma Forces Golf Tournament to Move

Jackson, TN (September 11, 2017) -- Due to forecasts of wind gusts and torrential rain from Hurricane Irma, the Jackson Madison County African American Chamber (JMCAACC) has elected to move its 7th Annual Follow Me Celebrity Golf Classic with guest celebrity golfer Ed “Too Tall” Jones to a new date of Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Bent Tree Golf Course, 2993 Paul Coffman Drive (38301). The tournament was originally scheduled for September 12th.

“This is the first time in seven years that the tournament has had to be moved. We are excited that Mr. Ed Jones will be able to join us on the new date of September 26th,” said Executive Director Florence Howard.

Tournament co-chairs are Dr. Charley Deal, Associate Vice Chancellor for Alumni Relations and Annual Giving at the University of Tennessee at Martin, and Ted Austin, Vice President for Customer Service and Community Relations. Celebrity co-chair is for Buffalo Bill cornerback Derrick Burroughs, Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Lane College .

Event sponsors are Jackson Energy Authority, Toyota Bodine Aluminum, Northwestern Mutual, City of Jackson , First Tennessee Bank, Lane College and University of Tennessee at Martin, BancorpSouth, and EPlus TV6 along with Victory Honda, The Jackson Sun, Jonah Affordable Housing Org., The CrimeSEEN Examiner News, and WOJG-FM Bolivar. The tournament raises funds for the chamber’s Follow Me Into Business® youth development program for ages 12-18.

Registration for a team of four is $400 and $100 for an individual player who will be assigned to a team. Confirmed teams include American Greetings, BancorpSouth, Corley Corporation, City of Jackson, First Bank, First Tennessee, Hardeman County Warriors, Jackson Energy Authority, Jonah Affordable Housing, Lane College, Northwestern Mutual, Regions Bank, Toyota Bodine, University of Tennessee at Martin, University Tennessee Foundation and returning champions Union University. The Follow Me Into Business® program was founded by JMCAACC in 2002 to provide young people, 12-18, with job training skills and business basics training with mentoring, employment and community involvement opportunities. The program meets monthly during the year and for eight-weeks during the summer. Registration for the program begins during Spring Break. Program advisor is Mary Weddle of Weddle Property Management. Student Affairs chairperson is Margaret Kimmins of Macedonia Baptist Church.
